Surfing the net -- rated PG

Technically, I don't think of myself as a "reviewer" type of blogger, though I do give my opinion on some restaurants we have visited, or some movies we've watched. However, when Janice Villanueva of Mommy Mundo asked if I wanted to check out this router with (the magic words) parental controls, I didn't think twice. I said "yes" immediately.

I received the Cisco Linksys Router E1000 (SRP: PhP2,595.00) that I was to review soon after. And since I'm not much of the "unboxing" kind of blogger, I'm skipping that and just showing you pics from the website that I put together.

I asked help from my husband to put it together and make it work for me, only because I didn't want to mess up with his system (i.e., baka magalit). But it was very easy to just hook up! As long as you have a cable to your modem and an accessible outlet, even a kid can do it. (Assuming the kid is old enough to understand how to work with outlets.)

Here is what I liked about it:

All in all, the Cisco Linksys E1000 is a pretty good router. I wish it could do more, like allow parents to specify a maximum number of hours someone can use the internet per day or allow for blocking of a specific channel on youtube.

At present, my husband and I don't have any controls yet on what the boys surf on the internet. We are, however, with them most of the time. They already know which sites they can and what they can't visit. However, it would really be good if we put more control than that.

This is what we do at home as regards "electronics time":
(this is more for K who loves the Wii) when the boys come home from school, they are allowed to use the Wii for an hour only.  IF and only IF they do and FINISH their homework, they get another hour.
This is the only one we really do. Now, we are thinking of imposing more rules, aside from the one above, especially since the boys are bigger, and we feel we need to curb their electronics time. This router will be great since I can control their PCs. (Wouldn't have had a problem if they were all macs, because macs have a parental control feature, but they aren't.) Oh well...

Meanwhile, I'd like to hear from you guys!

You see, if this post gets the most responses for the survey below, one of my readers has a chance to win a Cisco Linksys E4200 worth PhP8,595.00*!!!! Check out the link, such a sleek looking router!
