I've always been conscious of my body; ever since my grandfather told my mom, "You'd better stop feeding her rice. No one will marry her." I was 10 then.
Maybe he was right. I have legendary stories like:
- Shocking the babysitter once (we were in the US) by eating 8 (read it: EIGHT) scoops of ice cream. My excuse: their scooper was tiny, and they only fed me sandwiches. (What can you expect? I was 10 years old and Asian. I'm USED to eating rice with my meals.)
- Eating an entire can of Spam during the summer (my excuse: I was swimming. And you know how hungry one can get while swimming, right?). And hey, that wasn't in one sitting -- it was throughout the entire afternoon.
- I always had to buy clothes in the "chubby" girls section when I was young. (Asian sizes can't fit me. Even now.)
A few weeks ago, I was telling my girlfriend that I have always had issues with my body. And it turns out that she was in the same boat! I also realized that whenever I'd meet with my old friends, it would be like a contest who would say "I'm so fat na now" first. Is it because we're Pinoy or is it an Asian thing?
I've always been happy with my shoulders, but how to get rid of that flab on my arms (triceps?) and belly? And I've always had jiggly thighs. Sigh.
I tell you though, at this age (yes, I'm the big 4-0), metabolism is a whole lot slower. After delivering P in 2001, I was only able to really slim down in 2003. What happens then? I get pregnant. Haha! My great excuse in not trimming down now is because I don't want to be pregnant. Haha!
That's not gonna work now. I don't want to spend on new (big-sized -- horrors!) clothes, so I will choose to exercise. And my place to go now: Core Yoga Asia. Find them on FB HERE.
I want to look better (feeling ko kasi I look good already -- walang kokontra, this is my blog) for myself, and be healthier for myself and my family.
Let's do(h) this, ika nga ni Juan Flavier.
